Important Changes to the FDA’s Food Facility Registration Requirements

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires all domestic and foreign food facilities to renew their registration every even-numbered year. Facilities without a valid food facility registration risk refusal of imports by FDA or CBP. The registration period is from Oct 1st, 2020 thru Dec 31st, 2020.  Below is an important change this year.

In accordance with 21 CFR 1.232(a)(2), effective October 1, 2020, all facilities must include a unique facility identifier (UFI) recognized as acceptable by FDA with their registration information. To date, FDA recognizes the Data Universal Numbering System D-U-N-S (DUNS) number as an acceptable UFI. DUNS numbers are assigned and managed by Dun & Bradstreet and is available free of charge. Please visit the FDA DUNS Portal at https://fdadunslookup.com/ in order to obtain or verify your DUNS number. You will be required to provide your UFI in “Section 2- Facility Name/Address Information” of your registration.

Please visit fda.gov for more information about food facility registration and the 2020 biennial renewal including guidance documents and user guides for our Food Facility Registration Module (FFRM).
